RALPH RUCCI UNDER ANY NAME IS STILL RALPH RUCCI

There is a lot of playing musical designing these days.  Designers are jumping from label to label like they are all playing musical chairs.  The result of this is there are very few visionaries left. Designers who do the daring thing, sticking with one label, theirs  and staying true to one vision – theirs.   They don’t sell out to whichever big company lures them with the biggest checks – they remain true to their talent and  true to their craft.  They look at their careers as marathons and not as sprints.  There are few left who see the big picture of their legacy and not the immediate returns of coming up with the next “it bag.”

Ralph Rucci is one of the rare breed, he has always stayed true to his vision.  His art. Ralph Rucci designs  clothes on his terms. Each piece a perfect, detail intense creation.

He is the only American to be invited to show with the Parisian couture.  He is the truly great American designer.

And though he might have lost the freedom to use his own name, he did not lose his talent, his devotion to process and his love of  perfection.

After an almost two year hiatus he was back Tuesday night with a new collection under the label RR331.

Rucci took over a giant gallery – pure white – high ceilings – his collection scattered about the room on stark white faceless mannequins. The clothes spoke, no hipster playlist blasting in the background, no it models, taking the attention away from the clothing. The evening was about the clothes and the clothes were pure Ralph Rucci, sumptuous, elegant with details that make your heart skip a beat. You don’t look at his clothes and imagine yourself in them, you look at them and wonder how he does it.  That is what separates him from a designer who is just designing things to get attention.

The room was packed. He has many fans. The people who know – know and they were all there. And they were all delighted he was back.

It was like a lovely cocktail party with the mannequins as guest of honor. Though from the size of the line of people waiting to congratulate Ralph there was no question whose night it was.  RR331 is what is written on the label, but the clothes are pure Ralph Rucci. #perfection
