GIVENCHY

Hubert de Givenchy was one of the great designers of the 20th century.  He was not known for pushing the envelope – though he could if he had a brave client. He preferred to make beautiful, timeless clothes for his loyal followers and style icons like Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy.

In fact he designed all the clothes for Breakfast at Tiffany. He is quite old now and retired some years ago.  I wonder what he thinks of the turn the label bearing his name has taken.  It is so out of sync from what he was known for.

When we were in Madrid the Tyssen Borremezia museum had a large Givenchy show.  The idea was to mix art with the clothes. It’s a wonderful representation of a superb career.
