Totally forgot why this was.

FES

Dec 30, 2014by tracey Comments

OK, so I’m sitting in the lobby while I watch some picture upload and some not. It takes sometimes 15 minutes per photo. It’s freezing cold. Last night the electricity went out causing many to freak out. Sometimes the water is hot sometimes not.  Life in the old city of Fes.

The city, while picaresque in a decrepit  museum quality way is aggressive, it’s unfriendly, women are not allowed in cafes in the old city. The old city is where we are staying. It’s big. Three hundred and seventy five thousand people live here. Non Muslims cannot visit Mosques and a few other places of interest.  The lanes are too confusing to walk around alone so you always need a guide marching ten paces ahead of you.  It’s not easy going to say the least. But I’m glad we came.

The lobby is the main center of everyone’s life as it is the only place you can get Wifi. Entitled westerners like myself gripe with others about how this is not what we expected. Though I do like the hotel and every one here is very nice.

I love traveling and I even like it when it doesn’t work. I can file it under been there done that and I’m glad I did.

Fes is at the top of that list.

We had a guide yesterday – she spent so much time on her phone it was like a fourteen year old girl was taking us around. She also refused to let us stop for lunch but got herself a sandwich. She also had a very bad quality for a guide she told us nothing.

We did have a lovely dinner though and despite all that we had a very interesting day.
