Today I’m headed back out on the road for Gratitude and Trust, The Never Ending Book Tour.
People keep asking how do you do it? It never seems that difficult for me. The only hard part is leaving the family behind.
I still end up taking more than I need. Every trip I vow next time I take less – much less. But I do have some items that I never leave home without.
I pack a carryon I never open between here and my destination. I take a small tote bag where I put what I will need for the flight. Small computer, books, magazines, my inflight necessities.
I carry a small enough purse that if some stick by the rules flight attendant gets on my case, I can shove it in the tote bag and then I only have two items. More and more these days they are gate checking carry ons, so it’s better to be prepared to say good-bye to the stuff you want on board. I find separating what I need from I want imperative.
I use these little mesh bags for EVERYTHING. They weigh nothing. I never have enough.Always an empty one for a catch all.Two cameras, in case I lose or break one. Chargers in big orange bag. Portable chargers in small pink bag. I am obsessed with small bags.Ganesh – Hindu God Of Protection and Remover of Obstacles. This one lives in my travel medicine kit. I always have him with me.Travel Steamer. This is a great one. You get there, you have to be somewhere fast. Whip it out.Sweats. I have to have them. I’m big on lobby coffee in hotels. I’m up really early, so I put them on and find my way to the caffeine. These are by Wild Fox. Insanely comfy. This stuff is great. It goes in my tote. It’s a pick me up. A mask. A primer. It actually makes you look presentable after hours in flight or really early in the morning or at the end of a super long day.New addiction. In fact whole family loves it. Pillow spray. You know how plane pillows can smell yucky? Plus this really does help you sleep. This really works. Pricey. I admit. But it’t like a mini facelift in a tube.Eyes take a lot of abuse. Between dehydration and reading and working and traveling. Not to mention not enough sleep. These are some of the best eye pads out there.Charlotte Tilbury my new favorite makeup line. This works no matter what you are doing.I’ve written about these before Flight 101 Space Packs. The best thing ever for packing.New favorite phone charger. Goes from zero to hundred percent like lightening. Light weight. Always in my purse. Phonesuit. Check it out.I’ve been drinking this daily for twenty years. I down at least two per flight. And if someone is sneezing I up it.I always have these with me. For the plane. For breakfast. I skip a lot of meals on when I’m on the road. I couldn’t live without my Kind Bars.I miss my gym. I try and get to the hotel gym if I have the time. For those days when it’s impossible I use my Core Fusion band. It’s not perfect, but better than nothing. Routine – keeps you sane.Paul found these. We got through so many a day. Great for your glasses as well as your phone and any other screen you may be near.Always need a good book for the plane. You can get this one at Amazon and Barnes and Noble and even at the Miami Airport! Try it.
Don’t forget to drink a lot of water.
Oh, and if you’re in the Denver area come by Tattered Cover on Wednesday night at 7 PM to say Hi.
